We need more search options
it would be nice to search based on when the person last logged on
AND also if they posted a picture or not

I'd love a search option on whether someone is sefardi or ashkenazi as this is important for me.
Thanks to the organisers for a great site and wonderful work.

The translation of Ashkenazi is "from Germany"; while Sephardi is "from Spain."

When Jews from Germany migrated, in the 1500's and 1600's, eastward to Poland/Lithuania/Lativa/Russia, etc. they brought their language, a form of medieval German with Hebraic lettering with them and this language was called Yiddish. Therefore, these Yiddish speaking Jews and their descendants are now referred to as Ashkenazi.

The Jews who fled Spain/Portugal in the late 1490's had their own version of Yiddish, medieval Spanish, which is called Ladino. These Jews as well as Jews who lived in the countries they fled to, are referred to as Sephardic.

Until recent years, Jews who neither spoke Yiddish or Ladino, i.e., those from Iraq, Persia, Yemen, Central Asia, etc., were referred to as Mizrahi or tribes from the east.

However, leaders of the Sephardic movements today have decided, incorrectly, to re-define Sephardic Jews as coming from non-Yiddish speaking countries.
