Personality typing
Hi, everyone. Got taken aback on this site when asked to specify my personality type, haven't thought about this one for years though I was once really into it.
Just wondering how many people filled in the one about what personality type you want your intended to be and how you decided. I know if it's someone who is the same personality type as me I'd find it too painful!! Mirroring all my faults yet too different is a recipe for disaster. All this dating stuff sounds complicated enough without specifying personality types.
What do you think? Is it a hindrance or a help?

I also did not delve into the Personality delineation. Personally..............as I have several children who very definitely often exhibit personalities, similiar to my own in many ways, although, of course, with their own unique (as they believe) traits, I HAVE to support Ester's asseveration that another "me" would be too difficult to contemplate. Maybe once every couple of months when I want to sharpen my wits, but "every day" across the breakfast table.....Oy Veh. Of course I could always "sleep late". This is not to suggest that I am not gentle, modest, forbearing, quiet, retiring, shy and many other things which are the opposite of what a cursory glance over my above remarks might indicate. No...not at all............ But.........

I think you are both completely missing the point of the personality typing what it actually does. The point isn't to find the same personality it's to find a compatible one. Yes this could be the same personality type as you, or the polar opposite, or any other personality in between.

I suggest readding this: http://www.kosherstars.com/mbti_info.php and doing a little research on MBTI on the web, and perhaps reading the book Life Types by Sandra Hirsh and Jean Kummerow and you may get a better understand what MBTI can tell you about a person, yourself and how you relate to others. This information would definitely help you when looking for a match and why certain relationships simply work better than others.

Definate help! (maybe I just think so cause my mother's a psycologist....) Although, in my opinion, the MBTI system is not as effective as the Enneagram. (Personality Types, by Dr. Don Richard Riso). Using a system like these can help you understand more about the way a person thinks, why they are likely to respond to something one way instead of another....it helps you know more about what you're getting yourself into when you marry someone.

After reading Please Understand Me and after much real life observation, I have found what makes sense to me...all of the time. I always am attracted most to my opposite though my opposite also compliments me.
I am an ISFP and my opposite is an ENTJ. There are ENTJ's who of course I don't mix with but those that I do, make amazing chemistry with me. Statistics do say, though that
Extroverts (E) = 75 percent of the population
Introverts (I) = 25 percent of the population
also
Sensors (S) = 75 percent of the population
Intuitive (N) = 25 percent of population

Thinkers (T) and Feelers (F) are equal in number
Perceivers (P) and Judgers (J) are also equal

Therefore, statistically, some E's will have to marry E's and some S's will have to marry S's (i.e. statistics have it that the first two letters may be different or the same but the last two letters the T/F and the P/J will be opposites.

This works in real life, as well. The happiest marriages I have seen are between people whose last two letters are opposites.

Opposites do really attract.
